This post is sponsored by Carewell. All opinions and statements are my own.
When I started writing about self-care for caregivers – most of my posts focused on ‘Physical Self-Care.’ Top-of-mind topics included tips and resources to infuse regular exercise, healthy eating, and quality sleep. In recent months, I’ve been broadening my resources to encompass other categories of self-care. This post introduces the Carewell service, which aligns well with the ‘Practical Self-Care’ category.
What is Practical Self-Care? It’s centered around systems and habits, which saves us time and reduces the physical and mental energy involved.
As family caregivers, our time is precious. We want to be made aware of any product or service which streamlines an arduous task.
Carewell: The Caregivers Shop is an online shopping destination for family caregivers. I find it refreshing for family caregivers to have an exclusive shop and be on the receiving end of white-glove service.
How is Carewell Different Than Online Shopping Elsewhere?
Like you, I have my current go-to online shopping options. I wanted to see how Carewell stacks up, and I found four benefits missing from my other regular online shopping destinations.
The big benefit is that on Carewell all the ‘caregiving stuff’ is in one place. What a huge time saver! It’s like running into the corner pharmacy real quick versus wandering the aisles in a big-box retailer. And that’s if you are lucky just to find everything you need in one store! My mom had edema, and her legs and feet were so swollen I couldn’t find a house slipper or shoe to fit her feet AND that she could easily get on and off. I tried so many different brick-and-mortar and online shops to find the right fit. If I had known to consult Carewell, I could have spoken to one of their representatives, and likely, they would have directed me toward their post-op shoe collection. I wasn’t even aware at the time that a post-op shoe even existed.
Sometimes we don’t know what we don’t know. We learn a whole new vocabulary as family caregivers. Carewell helps by listing high-level caregiving categories to browse and find what you are looking for without conducting a massive search. Here are their eight specific categories:
- Personal Care
- Incontinence
- Meal Replacement
- Medical Supplies
- Cleaning Supplies
- Household
- Daily Living
- Kitchen & Dining
Do you have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account (i.e., HSA or FSA)? Carewell indicates which items are FSA or HSA eligible. I know I usually think about using my HSA or FSA for doctor’s visits and prescriptions. I’m guilty of forgetting that I can also use this money for healthcare-related items. Seeing the words ‘FSA & HSA eligible’ on the Carewell products means you can use a provided FSA or HSA card during the checkout process. You can even use a product filter during the shopping experience to view only the FSA or HSA eligible items.
You can call to speak to an expert and ask them questions. I was curious, so I called one weekday afternoon and was shocked that an actual human picked up the phone in less than a minute! My Carewell representative, Luis, was friendly, and through our conversation about grab bars and shower aids, I discovered he helps care for his grandma.
Examples of a Product in Each Carewell Category
I am impressed with the hundreds of products Carewell offers – again, all in one place! The collection below shows the vast array of products you can find. Many of these product pages offer options to buy in various quantities. If you know you like the product, you can stock up a bit and save more time and some money.
Current Shopping Deals
I enjoy saving money, especially on items I don’t want to buy, like incontinence supplies!
Carewell offers some excellent deals to help us save a few bucks.
Carewell also offers an ongoing autoship program that saves you money off on future deliveries of select brands for favorite items you always want to have on hand. On your first autoship order, you can save 30%. Carewell sends you an email reminder three days before processing your order. You can skip or change an order if you find you have enough supplies or move your order up if you are running low. You can cancel without incurring fees at any time.
Thank you, Carewell, for becoming a Happy Healthy Caregiver spotlight partner and for seeing the 53 million family caregivers in the US, and for offering us an exclusive place to shop online that saves us time and, in many cases, money.
